Following are the procedures for reactivation for continuing volunteers and the process for new volunteers to obtain Criminal Record Check (CRC) clearance in 2021-22. There have been several changes in procedures, including the addition of a new requirement for current WCPSS employees who want to volunteer to register.

NC Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHS) current guidelines limit non-essential visitors and activities involving external groups or organizations on school campuses. *We hope that we will be able to welcome volunteers back to our campus at some point in the future so please register so you are ready to be involved. The process can take up to two weeks to be completed.

Volunteer Definition

Visitors who may be alone with students at any point, including in a virtual setting. All volunteers require background checks. Examples of volunteers may include- field trip chaperone, reading with a student, field day workers, testing proctors, garden helpers, outdoor activities on school campuses such as beautification, PTA members assisting with PTA projects on campus and volunteers who may support the school program virtually such as FWES Hook a Book or other teacher determined virtual activities with groups of students.

Reactivation for Continuing Volunteers for 2022-2023

• Individuals who were approved in the 2021-22 school year- DO NOT have to register or reactivate for the 2022-23 school year.

New Volunteer Registration for 2022-23

• All new volunteer applicants must register and have an approved criminal record check prior to engaging in volunteer work.

• New volunteer applicants may go to any WCPSS work site and register through wcpss.net by selecting the Community tab and then selecting Volunteer.

• Applicants will be notified by email once their application has been approved

• Applicants who are not approved will receive notice from Employee Relations

New Registration Process for WCPSS Employees who want to volunteer in 2022-23

• Although WCPSS employees do not have to go through the criminal record check (as it is already on file for all employees), they will now need to complete the registration process outlined. WCPSS Volunteer
