PTA LEADERSHIP

The PTA is a volunteer community who share their time and talents in a variety of ways. We are always interested in welcoming new people to get involved in our school and PTA programs. If you are interested in volunteering for an event, joining a committee or running for one of our open board positions, please reach out to us! While the titles may sound intimidating, please don’t be afraid to help as each position is part of a well-run machine that supports each other.

President

Oversees all PTA activities, and serves as a de facto member of all committees. Presides over executive and full board meetings as well as the general body meetings. Working closely with the Treasurer on budget and spending, signs all checks and contracts. Facilitates communication between school administration and PTA membership. 

Vice President, Programs

A member of the PTA executive board, has a leadership role in the execution of events and programs, including supporting cultural arts, Open House and the World Dance. Oversees and supports the volunteers who run a variety of programs and events. Sets program goals so they meet with FWES IB standards and engage as much of our student community as possible. 

Vice President, Services

A member of the PTA executive board, is responsible for inclusion initiatives, outreach opportunities, and PTA participation in health and wellness programs. Oversees teacher appreciation and hospitality events supporting our FWES staff. Works closely with the Teacher Task Team, Project Parents and Campus Clean Up to provide specific support inside and outside of our FWES campus.  

Vice President, Ways & Means

A member of the PTA executive board, oversees committees or directly coordinates all fundraising activities, such as the Book Fair, Global Fun Run, Box Tops and collections, coupon books, spirit nights, and spirit wear. Works to solicit donations appropriate to our non-profit, tax exempt status.

Vice President, Communications

A member of the PTA executive board, is primarily responsible for our PTA website, our MemberHub intranet, and our Social Media profile. Schedules the release of notifications, maintain the appropriateness of online content, and updates data as needed. 

Secretary

A member of the PTA executive board, is responsible for maintaining the overall calendar, scheduling meetings and generating minutes from every board meeting. All PTA meeting information is available to all PTA members. 

Treasurer

A member of the PTA executive board, oversees the budgets and holds the fiscal responsibility for the organization. Is a primary check issuer and signer. Helps to maintain our non-profit, tax exempt status and with our Audit Chair, files our taxes.

Inclusion Chair

Serves as our point of contact and outreach to families with any additional needs. This can range from finding ESL translation help, to mobility access assistance, to LBGTQIA+ allies, to sensory or spectrum accommodation support.  

Membership Chair

Responsible for entering membership information for members into the Member Hub database. Responsible for maintaining membership records throughout the year. 20-30 hours of work total for the year. With the exception of helping at Open House, can be done at home.

Outreach Committee Chair

Maintains stock of needed items in the outreach clothing closet on a monthly basis. Connects with our Social Media team and FWES Staff to communicate to families if items are needed. Organizes food drives and other community support activities.  Usually less than 1 hour a week.

Nominating Committee Chair

Forms and oversees a nominating committee to identify future leaders for the PTA. Works to encourage volunteers to increase their engagement and positive contributions to our FWES community.

Spirit Wear Committee Chair

Coordinates volunteers to sell spirit wear at Open House, New Student Picnic, the Kindergarten Welcome event and a general school fall sale. Oversees the order processing, money collection, and distribution of items. Tracks inventory and works with the VP of Ways and Means to reorder stock. Research and present new offerings to the board as needed. 

Campus Clean Up Chair

Plan and oversee two campus clean up events, in the Fall and Spring. Coordinate the planting of new flowers and plants around the campus. Work with FWES staff to determine repair work and new beautification projects. Usually a 3 hour event held on a weekend day.

Engagement Chair

Responsible for creating opportunities for FWES families to gather and build community. Schedule monthly free or low cost events for our diverse student body to attend. Events range from our Back to School Picnic, World Dance, Trunk or Treat, and FWES nights.

Advocacy Chair

Work with members of the FWES PTA and NC PTA to raise awareness on a variety of educational and student issues. Bring guest speakers to FWES on special interest topics and serve as point of contact for any parent with questions or concerns. Commitment: A few hours a month. Must attend PTA meetings and WCPSS BAC meetings.  Most meetings are outside of school hours.

Diversity Equity and Inclusion Co-Chair

A member of the PTA board.  FWES PTA strives to welcome all voices and learn from our community, with a focus on respect and acceptance of every family and student. Work with members of the FWES PTA to raise awareness of issues and serve as point of contact for any parent with questions or concerns. Commitment: A few hours a month.  Must attend PTA meetings.

Hospitality Chair

Show appreciation to FWES staff by managing food events and other meals, such as Welcome Back Lunch or Teacher Appreciation Dinner.  Work with local restaurants to provide catering and schedule volunteers as needed.  Manage quarterly “stock the staffroom” or similar events. Commitment: A few hours a month and at school during events to help oversee volunteers. 

Volunteer coordinator

Build teams of volunteers to assist FWES and PTA events, in classrooms, and on long term projects. Serve as an ambassador to encourage participation and create sign ups. Commitment: A few hours a month and at school during events to help oversee volunteers. 

Fine arts Chair

Advertise and help submit FWES students’ original artwork for the PTA Reflections Contest held each fall.  Assist Mrs. Smith with the Art to Remember fundraiser, submitting and distributing orders. Commitment: Several hours a week for a few weeks in the fall and in the spring. 

Health and welness Chair

Coordinate activity focused events, such as Walk to School days and Field Day. Work with Mr. Eller to bring his ideas to the PTA and school community. Commitment: A few hours a month and at school during events as needed.

Project Parents

Work with FWES staff on requests as needed.  Past examples include changing batteries in the world clocks, assembling tables, managing recess equipment. Commitment: Coordinate with FWES staff as needed.

Campus Beautification and Cleanup

Work with school administration and garden chair to manage bi-annual cleanup of FWES campus.  Organize volunteers and coordinate needed supplies and work requests.  Typically includes spreading mulch, planting, and trash pickup. Commitment: Several hours of planning work that can be done from home leading up to the selected dates, then supervising volunteers and helping on the day of the cleanup.  Typically one Saturday in fall and one in spring.  


Fifth grade celebration

Work with school administration and fifth grade teachers to send off FWES graduating students in style. Work typically includes designing programs, coordinating with vendors for signs and shirts, and organizing volunteers to assist with the ceremony setup and family picnic. Commitment: Several hours of planning work that can be done from home in the spring; being at school as needed for meetings and on the day of events.


Grade parent coordinator

Be the point of contact for all grade parents and send emails with PTA and FWES information. Create a teacher “Like List” for parents.  Coordinate with VP Communications as needed. Commitment: One kick off meeting at school, then a few hours a month..


Spirit Night Chair

Coordinate with local restaurants to arrange quarterly fundraising events.  Create advertisements and work with VP Ways and Means and VP Communications as needed. Commitment: A few hours a quarter.


Artist/Graphic Designer

Help create spirit wear and work with various teams to design flyers and posters for advertising PTA events.  Commitment: A few hours a couple times a year.
