Community Garden

Supported by a grant from Katie’s Krops and the PTA, FWES grows a community garden in the center courtyard. The garden is planted, maintained, and harvested by FWES families and staff. All the food is donated to the Dorcas Crisis Center for distribution in their food bank.

Bear Paws Book Program

The PTA launched a new program in 2019 to buy books for students who may not otherwise be able to have a new book that corresponds to their current reading level. During the two FWES book fairs, the selected students are given a gift card to purchase as many books as they wish up to the gift card amount. These students were able to purchase 1-4 books.

Cultural Arts

Each year the PTA hosts artists, authors and musicians to come to FWES to share their special talents with all our students. These artists demonstrate their unique skills and share information about their culture. Each year through the Visiting Author program, a children’s book author gives a presentation to all our students. When possible, an Artist in Residence is also funded to create a specific project for our students or school.

Educational Tools

The PTA funds student access to the online program RazKids and for the distribution of the monthly Scholastic News research materials.

Technology Support

The PTA works closely with FWES to provide additional tablets and electronic devices to lower the student to device ratio and to upgrade the primary devices the teachers use in the classrooms.

Mobile Cart

The PTA was able to purchase a cart to deliver equipment to classrooms and also used by the ID-MOD classes for food deliveries and their own coffee cart to build money skills.

Resurface the Basketball Courts

The PTA was able to resurface the basketball courts next to the cafeteria. All of the 2-5 classes have access to play there during recess.

Picnic Tables

The PTA was able to purchase 12 picnic tables. Families will be able to enjoy lunch together and classes can use them for outside learning activities.

Water Bottle Refill Stations

With a matching grant from Action for Healthy Kids, the PTA was able to purchase 3 water bottle refill stations. These units fit on top of the existing water fountains and provide an automatic, quick way to refill water bottles. This decreases the need for disposable plastic bottles and is easy for our younger students to use.

Gym Mats

The PTA was able to purchase new gym mats for use in all the Physical Education classes. These replace some very well worn mats.
