Announcing FWES Reflections Winners & Runners Up

Thank you FWES families and teachers for supporting your student's participation in the 2024-2025 PTA Reflections Contest!

This year, 21 students from Farmington Woods participated in the school level PTA Reflections contest-Accepting Imperfection. We are proud of each student who submitted their art!   All FWES Reflections art is now on display in the Front Office Display Case!

Congratulations to the five students noted below who placed in this year's contest!  They will be moving on to the county level.  Wake PTA will announce winners in early January.  Students who win at the county level will then move on to the National PTA Reflections Contest, with winners announced around May.

Thank you all again for your time and dedication to supporting your student and this contest.  We will honor all participants with a celebratory breakfast this Spring.

Well done all!

Visual Arts Primary First Place

Rosie Doerr

PRIMARY (Pre-K - Grade 2) Siouville

Title:  Rosie's Imperfection

Artist Statement:  Imperfect means to me that things don't always go your way and nothing is perfect.  I drew my pusheen's tail fell off and I still love it even though the tail fell off.  I also drew a sad face and a broken heart and I was sad when it fell off.  I still love it very much.

Visual Arts Primary 2nd Place

McKenna Wilson

PRIMARY (Pre-K - Grade 2) Siouville

Title:  Learning to Spell

Artist Statement: Becouse ecsepting iperfecsnin is when you dont write words perectly.  "Because accepting imperfection is when you don't write words perfectly."

Visual Arts Intermediate 1st Place

Roxanne Marter

INTERMEDIATE (Grades 3-5) Pusateri

Title: Beautiful Art through Nature’s Imperfections

Artist Statement: I got my idea when I went on a hike and saw a lot of imperfections in nature. I picked up lots of leaves with holes and torn edges that I thought were interesting. I wanted to take the leaves and make a collage. I also used broken shells, rocks, and sticks. Through my art process of creating this collage, I learned that things that are not perfect can be beautiful.

Visual Arts Intermediate-2nd Place

Faith Thomason

INTERMEDIATE (Grades 3-5) Crow

Title:  One Big Tree

Artist Statement:  Once there was a big tree in the middle of the park. Her life was perfect! Until one day, everything fell apart. People with axes, they chopped her limbs off, they chopped her leaves off! She was just a stump. She wished for a friend. And right when things seemed like they couldn’t get better, they did! One bright and sunny morning the stump looked up. There was a flower! They became very close friends, literally.  She was imperfect, but she accepted it very much. The end.

Music Primary 1st Place

Shraddha Malugu

PRIMARY (Pre-K - Grade 2) Crow

Title:  I Am Fine the Way I Am

Artist Statement: The song is about I am good and you are too. No one is more, and that I don’t have to be like you.

ACCEPTING IMPERFECTION

If you need a device like a camera or an iPad in order to work on your entry please contact reflections@fwespta.org

The contest begins at the school level. FWES students enter in the appropriate division: Primary (PreK-2nd), Intermediate (3rd -5th) or Accessible Arts (All Grades). Winning art will move up to County level competition, then potentially to State and Nationals!

The 2024–2025 Reflections Contest theme is Accepting Imperfection Students are invited to reflect on this theme and create work(s) of art in one or more of the available categories: Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography, and/or Visual Arts.

Each entry must have a title and be accompanied by an artist statement (between 10-100 words). The artist statement communicates what inspired the work, how it relates to the theme, and the content of the work. The artist's statement carries a lot of weight in the judging process, so write carefully!

Music Intermediate-Winner  (INTERMEDIATE (Grades 3-5))

Wake County Visual Arts Winner!

Visual Arts Intermediate Winner

INTERMEDIATE (Grades 3 - 5)

Nayeli Percy (Herrema)

Title:  Breaking Free

Artist Statement:   “Breaking Free” symbolizes my hope for the future because I believe that nature is resilient. The environment is often treated like a chained servant, taken for granted and abused with pesticides and pollution. After a big storm, I found a piece of wood, spray painted the outside to make it look burnt and glued moss and flowers to the inside to show that it is thriving, alive and beautiful. My piece shows that nature is adaptable and strong, you can burn it down but a sapling will grow. Nature will persevere and because of that, I am hopeful.

Visual Arts Primary Winner

PRIMARY (Pre-K - Grade 2)

Tejas Manchikalapudi (Bulla)

Title:  Highs cannot exist without the lows!

Artist Statement:  The leaves are all falling, and they're falling like they're falling in love with the ground. Love the trees until their leaves fall off, then encourage them to try again next year. The leaves will fall, and new ones will return in a few months, but now is the time to admire its natural descent. This consciousness may make us all more inclined to make the most of our time. So welcome slow speeds, practice gratitude, and light a sensory candle. Choose to live in the present. I hope autumn brings a sense of calm, creativity and good ideas!

Visual Arts Primary Runners Up

PRIMARY (Pre-K - Grade 2)

Faith Thomason (Siouville)

Title:  Anything is Possible

Artist Statement: I am hopeful because of magic. This is a magical forest. This is where anything is possible. Even a puppy can dream of being a magical fox, even a girl can make a difference. Magic is important, there should be some magic because our world is being hurt by pollution and magic can stop that and make the world happy again.

Visual Arts Intermediate Winner

INTERMEDIATE (Grades 3 - 5)

Holden Nelson (Packer)

Title:  The Friendship Hand

Artist Statement:  I am hopeful for everyone to be friends.
