Notice About Photo ID Requirement for Voting -
Voters will be asked to present a valid photo identification when voting in person.
If you do not have a valid photo ID card, you may obtain one from your county board of elections prior to the election, through the end of the early voting period. A list of all types of ID that can be used for voting is available on the State Board of Elections Voter ID webpage.
Registered Wake County voters who do not already have an acceptable form of identification for voting purposes may obtain a free photo ID card at the DMV or the Board of Elections Operations Center located at 1200 N. New Hope Road, Raleigh, in-person Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. until 5:15 p.m. No special documents are needed. Voters will provide their name, date of birth, and the last four digits of their Social Security number, and have their photo taken.

You must be a resident of Wake County, North Carolina, for 30 days before the election in which you intend to vote.
You must not vote in any other county or state after submitting a voter registration application in Wake County. If registered elsewhere, you understand that you are canceling that registration upon becoming registered to vote in Wake County.
You must not be serving a felony sentence, including any period of probation, post-release supervision, or parole.
Check Your Voter Registration Today
Even if you're confident, check it. The voter search page at the NC State Board of Elections is a must-click resource for every North Carolinian planning to vote in 2024. Enter your name, click on “search”, and select the option that looks like you based on the full name, county, and ZIP Code. Make sure your status is active!
Verify the following information:
Your address. If you no longer live at the address where you are currently registered to vote, you need to update your address to be eligible to vote in North Carolina. If you plan to vote on Election Day in the general election, submit a new voter registration form with your current address to your county board of elections by October 11. If you have moved within the same county, you can also update your registration with your new address during Early Voting between October 17 and November 2.
Your voting location. If you plan to vote on Election Day, you need to vote at the specified polling place for your precinct. During Early Voting, you can vote at any one-stop voting site in your county.
Your sample ballot. A sample ballot is provided on the voter search page so you can review all of the options for every office and ballot initiative for which you will have an opportunity to vote this fall. Do your research!
Any registered voter in North Carolina may vote an absentee ballot by mail. To request a ballot by mail, it must be received by 5pm on October 29.
Absentee ballots may be returned by mail; in person at your county board of elections office (Board of Elections Operations Center, 1200 N. New Hope Rd., Raleigh, NC 27610); or in person at an open early voting site in your county (you must stand in line until you can tell an Elections Official to let them know you are returning an absentee ballot.)
Ballots must be returned to the county board of elections no later than 7:30 p.m. on Election Day. A postmark on or before Election Day does not establish timely receipt of a ballot delivered after the deadline. It is recommended to mail your ballot several days in advance.
If you change your mind about mailing in your ballot, you may still vote in person as long as you did not return your absentee ballot.
During the early voting period, voters may cast a ballot at any early voting site in their county. This is different from Election Day, when registered voters must vote at their assigned polling place.
The early voting period runs from October 17 – November 2. Any eligible Wake County voter may vote at any Wake County early voting location. Wake County has 22 early voting sites. To see all locations and hours, visit http://wakevotesearly.com
