Notice About Photo ID Requirement for Voting -

Voters will be asked to present a valid photo identification when voting in person.

If you do not have a valid photo ID card, you may obtain one from your county board of elections prior to the election, through the end of the early voting period.  A list of all types of ID that can be used for voting is available on the State Board of Elections Voter ID webpage

Registered Wake County voters who do not already have an acceptable form of identification for voting purposes may obtain a free photo ID card at the DMV or the Board of Elections Operations Center located at 1200 N. New Hope Road, Raleigh, in-person Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. until 5:15 p.m. No special documents are needed. Voters will provide their name, date of birth, and the last four digits of their Social Security number, and have their photo taken.

Vote by Mail

Any registered voter in North Carolina may vote an absentee ballot by mail.  To request a ballot by mail, it must be received by 5pm on October 29.

Absentee ballots may be returned by mail; in person at your county board of elections office (Board of Elections Operations Center, 1200 N. New Hope Rd., Raleigh, NC 27610); or in person at an open early voting site in your county (you must stand in line until you can tell an Elections Official to let them know you are returning an absentee ballot.)

Ballots must be returned to the county board of elections no later than 7:30 p.m. on Election Day. A postmark on or before Election Day does not establish timely receipt of a ballot delivered after the deadline.  It is recommended to mail your ballot several days in advance.

If you change your mind about mailing in your ballot, you may still vote in person as long as you did not return your absentee ballot.
